A torchbearer of Rajasthani folk and folk-pop fusion for over three decades, Ila Arun has also lent her voice to Bollywood hits, including Choli Ke Peeche (Khalnayak, 1993) and Morni Baaga Ma (Lamhe, 1991). Apart from singing, she also acts in films.
Speaking about her love for acting and singing on the sidelines of a recital at the NCPA, Ila says, "It's hard to choose between singing and acting. Singing is enjoyable, but I like acting a bit more, because you get to live many characters."
Ila isn't fond of the current trend of remaking old songs. "I don't like the culture of remixing and remaking something already created. Why not create something new and more exciting?" says the singer, adding that her zeal for work keeps her going. "I can never retire. I still wake up at 4.30 am to write when I can and work on my music."
Ila is excited about her upcoming film, Vidya Balan-starrer Begum Jaan. "I've reached an age, when only certain kind of roles come my way and I choose from among them. I look for something special in parts I play."
