She started with ad films and then gained popularity when she acted and produced the play Unspoken Dialogues. Shazahn Padamsee will hit screen near you this Friday with Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year. Here she talks about her role, her hero and why she will never quite theatre.u00a0
Q Did your parents look down upon films as all theatre folks do?
No. My parents are very open-minded. They would have supported me no matter what career I would've chosen, they would have supported me blindly and stood by me just the way they are doing now. I have always been a movie buff, I love watching plays as well. I have grown up watching people doing rehearsals and all that. Acting feels like home.
Q Your mom has been a pop star sensationu2026ever considered singing as an option?
Nou2026not at all. The glasses would break if I start singing.u00a0 Butu2026never say never, may be sometime. I never thought I would be acting as I was very shy until a couple of years ago, but now that has become my profession. Maybe I might sing if any of the future scripts demands me to sing for a movie.
Q How did Rocket Singh come to you?
I auditioned for the role, and got it. It all depends on how you perform. It does not depend upon whose daughter you are or whose son you are, it's all about your acting skills and the director's decision, whether you are fit for the role or not.
Q Do you have enough to do in the film that has Ranbir in a title role?
I am part of a great movie. I couldn't have asked for a better role and a launch.
Shimit Amin had done a great job in Chalk De and Ab Tak Chhapan. And then of course there is Adi who is my mentor, Ranbir who is rocking B-town these days. So I am not worried at all.
Q Is it true that the film does not have a conventional leading lady?
It's not about having a conventional leading lady, there is a love interest and I am the love interest in the movie. Once everybody sees the film, it will be more clear.
Q You have done an advertisement with SRK, how did that happen? Tell us about your experience.
That was amazing. I always wanted to work with him, so it was like a dream come true. He was really down-to-earth. I told him was that I am his biggest fan, he gave me a hug and he ruffled my hair. Since Shimit had directed him during Chak De, we were discussing about Shimit during the ad shoot. The ad turned out so cute, I am really happy. Nice memories, good experience.
Q Have you been approached or signed for anything else?
I have been approached for a couple of projects. But I believe in doing quality work. I am being a bit choosy about my next move. So something is going to happen very soon.
Q If the movie is a success, are you going to quit theatre and do only movies?
I am doing only movies right now. One never quits theatre. It's not a 9-5 job. Its something like if you do one play right now then you can do another play post three years. I am never leaving theatre but it's just that right now I am focusing on movies. If I get a good script and a good role and think that I can do wonders with it then I would do that play. But that's later, right now its only movies.
