Russell caused quite a stir with hoax phone calls to the police on his recent tour. As part of his act he would call police with information regarding minor offences reported in local newspapers. He once called up saying that he had information that could help locate a missing statue.

He was once quoted as saying, "Even as a junkie I stayed true to vegetarianism. I shall have heroin, but I shan't have a hamburger. What a sexy little paradox."
