After the protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati' escalated and Deepika Padukone received death threats from fringe groups, several female actors rallied in support of Deepika. They include Shabana Azmi, who is spearheading the drive, besides Jaya Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma and Parineeti Chopra among others. Those in the know say that when Kangana Ranaut was asked, she refused thus leaving Azmi furious and in shock!

Reports suggest that Kangana outright denied signing the petition when approached by Shabana Azmi. The reports citing the reason was Kangana and Deepika's history with each other. In 2014, Deepika had dedicated her award for 'Happy New Year' to Kangana's performance in 'Queen'. The latter had reacted by saying she'd have preferred if Deepika had personally appreciated it instead of speaking about it on a public platform.
However, Kangana in a statement to timesnownews.com has squashed these rumours to be baseless and spilled the real reason behind not supporting the 'Deepika Bachao' campaign. Kangana says that she very much supports Deepika but isn't happy with Azmi's investment in left-wing v/s right-wing politics. Known to not mince her words, Kangana said, "I am on the fence about many things and being a part of a feminist movement called 'Deepika Bachao' lead by someone who character assassinated me when I was bullied, seems to be one of them."
Was Kangana hinting at the episode when the senior actress Shabana Azmi voiced her support for Hrithik Roshan in the public spat between him and Kangana?
She further says that she never sought anyone's support to support someone. "I am an individual perfectly capable of supporting who I like without anyone's support," said the 'Simran' actress.
