HALL PASS
A; Comedy
Dir: Bobby, Peter Farrelly
Cast: Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate
Rating: '1/2
WHAT'S IT ABOUT: Mid-life crisis gets a solution. Well. Sort of. Rick (Wilson) and Fred (Sudeikis) are best friends who get week off to indulge in any extra-marital stuff they can manage to be a part off. Wives Maggie (Fischer) and Grace (Applegate) are supposedly done trying to play good wives and allow their men to get a reality check.
They're ageing, past their prime and are a generation apart and know it. Compared to this one, Dil Toh Baccha Hai seems like a masterpiece (it isn't, by the way).
WHAT'S HOT: Richard Jenkins as casual sex guru and a Mr Know-It-All is possibly the only reason you will catch the film. He is unabashedly shameless and pulls off the sad punchlines in the pedestrian script.
WHAT'S NOT: The Farrelly brothers have hit rock bottom with this one. There's no redemption coming. Especially not after that girl who sneezes and simultaneously splatters the wall behind her with shit. There is so much innuendo that it almost always tilts towards overkill. If you're going to make a sex comedy, the whole intention should be to entertain, not gross you out, which this film does effortlessly.
WHAT TO DO? Don't put yourself through torture. Neither chick flick, buddy flick or a screwball comedy. It's a khichdi of all of the above. Thanks, but no thanks, we'll pass.u00a0u00a0
