Salman might be looking every bit of a Veer in his upcoming film, but he has Anna Singh to thank for it. The fashion designer has created five different looks for Sallu bhai for the film. She tells CS more about his wow wardrobe:
Because Veer is fiction, unlike Taj Mahal for which I was also the costume designer, I had the freedom to experiment with the outfits. I put two-three worlds together to create the various looks. For instance, for the tribal look, I merged the North American, Red Indian feel and culminated it into a distinct line. The Indian Royalty look was inspired by the jewellery that the maharajas of the time wore and many other factors. The Indian kings had liaisons with the British. History shows that Cartier officials used to design jewellery for the Indian royalty too. So, I have used those impressions in my designs and opted for fabrics like velvet and lace. Salman's war outfits were made from German Silver. We could have used a cheaper material, but Salman didn't want to do that, mainly because there was a safety hazard involved. If something slipped out the armour during the shooting, Salman would have gotten hurt.
Salman's the man
Salman is so handsome that he completely does justice to the costumes. In fact, he always came up with creative suggestions. The little belt that holds the dagger together was his idea.
The costumes were always tested before the shooting. When you're filming a movie of this magnitude, with 800 people in one song, you have to plan the costumes beforehand. In fact we had a very tight schedule during the shoot. By the time we finished dressing people up, there were more people to dress for the next shoot.
