A working woman’s wardrobe has to be versatile enough for a day at work and a night out. Here’s a guide on how to create the look
You then need to choose an outfit that is versatile enough to be worn to office and can double up as good party wear. Work can be hectic, so it is imperative to plan ahead so that you're not only impeccably groomed every day, but can make the easy transition from office to after hours. If you need guidance, we have put together a list of working wardrobe staples to help you out.
For the high-flying corporate
A must-have item of clothing in your wardrobe is a skirt. You can tuck a blouse or shirt into your pencil skirt for a more formal look; at night, slip into some heels and throw on a long necklace, and you instantly have a more dressy look. Moreover, a lean skirt can be flattering and add height to your frame. Make sure you know your body type before buying a skirt. If you are heavier around your hips, look for an A-line skirt that ends right below the knees. If you have a sporty, athletic figure, opt for a figure-hugging pencil skirt that is knee-length. If you're tall and lean, choose a midi skirt that ends right above the ankle.
For the creative genius
A dress is your best and most versatile friend. You can choose from among a variety of options and styles, and experiment with colours beyond just navy or black. As long as your dress is formal enough for the office, you can team it with traditional jewellery, a funky belt or just some make-up. We love off-shoulder dresses, which are fashionable right now and can be paired with a scarf or a statement choker. You can also opt for a skater dress that flares out at the waist and is great at hiding that slight tummy. If you have a dress in a plain colour, choose accessories in complementary shades to add colour to the look.
For the entrepreneur
Nowadays, it isn't so uncommon to find professionals wearing jeans or trousers to office. If opting for a casual look, jeans work really well. Stay away from ripped or distressed jeans, and stick to dark-wash denim or classic white or black jeans instead. Team them with a cute peplum top that flares out at the waist and gives you the illusion of smaller hips. Or pair well-fitted straight-fit jeans with kitten heels. These looks have the advantage of appearing professional, yet are fun enough for a night out. For a more feminine look, you can add a colourful scarf or a clutch.
