Fashion: Indian designers on how they would style Kate Middleton

I would love to see Kate in this classic chintz printed crepe drop-waist kurta and pallazo at a fun summer fundraiser. Kate has a really classic but playful style. Giving her a print, which she normally doesn't wear much, would be unique. Also, she has the body type and height to carry of a drop-waist kurta, which is playful but elegant.

Keeping in mind Kate's minimalist style, we have designed a structured pleated dress which doesn't go overboard with embroidery, keeping it effortlessly chic. It is created with Benarasi weaves, which give an Indian touch to an overall contemporary look and is apt for a formal dinner.

The idea is to add a little bit of fluidity to Kate's love for structured clothing. I like her individual take on the classic, keeping her position and role in mind. I've thought up a dress that incorporates the person she is and her role and duties. I've designed a textured peplum dress with a structured flare hem and chiffon plissé back. It's structured for strength and fluid for feminity.

When Ritu Kumar dressed Princess Diana

Ritu Kumar's association with the British royalty dates back to the 1990's when Princess Diana patronised her store at South Audley in London. Kumar reminisces that Diana was a very private person and cut out the protocol involved with her shopping and enjoyed an intimate experience at the store.

She informed the store that she would prefer to keep the visit low key and requested the access to the store to be limited. She would cycle to the store, park at Mayfair and walk the few minutes to the showroom. Diana wore an outfit by Kumar for her trip to Lahore, accompanying Imran Khan and Jemima Goldsmith (then Khan).

"The Duchess of Cambridge is a graceful, beautiful lady. Though I have no doubt that she will look gorgeous while in India, it'll be so appropriate to see her in a similar blue outfit worn by her late mother-in-law, years ago. When visiting the Taj, a blue kurta with a churidaar and long dupatta will be a bit more modern and complement the Duchess' sartorial sense," suggests Kumar.
