Veteran Bollywood and television actress Farida Jalal was victim of death hoax when rumours of her demise started surfacing on the internet since Sunday evening.
Farida Jalal contacted publicist K Himaanshu Shuklaa who took to Twitter to quash rumours of her death. He tweeted, "Just got a call from #FaridaJalal ji, she is hale and hearty. Stop spreading fake news...#deathhoax."
He also tweeted a link to his blog post with Farida Jalal's full statement. It read, "I am hale and hearty. I don't know from where these baseless rumours are coming from. Initially I laughed, but from last 30 minutes my phone has been constantly ringing and everybody is asking the same question. It's a bit irritating, I wonder why people spread such rumours."
An unverified account by the name of Farida Jalal also posted a message to dismiss rumours of her death. Here's the tweet:
The actress will next play Kashmiri woman in Imran Khan's upcoming film 'Sargoshiyan'.
Farida Jalal, however, is not the first celebrity to fall victim to fake news about death. Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and several other Bollywood stars have been 'killed' by the internet.
