Positive survey

Aanand confirms, "I am making Dekh Bhai Dekh into a movie. I conducted a survey across seven states to gauge people's reaction whether they would like to see it on the big screen."

He states, "All these years a lot of people would tell me to revisit the show. I avoided it for 15 years but after the research results more than 90 per cent said yes I decided to take the plunge."

Aanand adds, "I am making a trilogy and Dekh Bhai Dekh i\s one of them. The movie will deal with issues related to safe sex and HIV.

It won't be one of those typical Hindi movies that depict such subjects in bad light. The film is a comedy; a family drama and how to deal with such issues."

The director is also retaining the title track of the soap. "I am keeping it as over 78 per cent of the people recalled it."

What was Dekh Bhai Dekh?

It was a Hindi sitcom about the Diwans who live in an ancestral bungalow. The family consists of 11 members, aged from six to 65, including a father, mother, two sons and their families.

It took a look at the various ups and downs faced by the family and through crazy and unexpected things that happen to them with unfailing regularity.

The never-say-die attitude helps them overcome sibling rivalry, boyfriend troubles, business problems, in-law problems, etc. A distinctive feature of this show was its fast-speaking characters.

Produced by Jaya Bachchan's Saraswati Audio-Visuals, it aired in 1993 on Doordarshan. After a year's run, it ended, only to reappear on Sony a few years later. In the past 10 years, it has had three reruns on the channel.
