Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone wants Information and Broadcasting Minister and former actress Smriti Irani to take action against people trying to vilify her film 'Padmavati'

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati'has been embroiled in controversies since its inception. The Rajput clan had expressed their displeasure over the portrayal of 'Queen Padmavati' and 'Sultan Allaudin Khilji'. Some members of the community even destroyed the sets of the magnum opus by setting fire to it. They have burned down posters of the film, asked for a ban and even physically assaulted crew of the film. ' This time around a 'Rangoli' designed resembling the 'Padmavati' poster which took over 48 hours to design was destroyed by a bunch of hooligans in Surat, Gujarat.

However, this time around Deepika Padukone is not taking things lying down and has decided to put a stop to the vilification of her film. Deepika, who stars as 'Padmavati' has posted a series of tweets against the people who destroyed the 'Rangoli' and has even reached out to Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani to take an action against them.

The self proclaimed 'thekedaars of culture' have tried time and again to morally police the film. Karni Sena members also threatened to oppose the screening of the movie in theatres if the facts are distorted. Activists of the group had in January vandalised the set of the movie at Jaigarh Fort here, alleging that the director was 'distorting facts'.

Narayan Singh Devrala, district president of the Karni Sena told PTI, "It was agreed upon that the Bhansali team will screen the movie before a panel of intellectuals and historians before releasing its poster. We had asked them to screen the film in Jaipur, which did not happen. So, the posters were burnt yesterday". Deepika Padukone is playing the role of 'Padmavati' and Ranveer Singh is playing 'Alaudin Khilji' in the historical drama. Shahid Kapoor will play Maharawal Ratan Singh and the film will hit the screens on December 1.
