Dangal falls short of 2000 crore mark, worldwide

The Bollywood industry is abuzz with the news that the Amir Khan starrer ‘Dangal’ has grossed Rs 2000 crores worldwide. But , the film’s spokesperson says that ‘Dangal’ is not quite there.

The Bollywood industry is abuzz with the news that the Amir Khan starrer ‘Dangal' has grossed Rs 2000 crores worldwide. But , the film's spokesperson says that ‘Dangal' is not quite there.

In a recent report by The Indian Express, the spokesperson for the movie said," We have been reading a lot of reports saying that Dangal has crossed 2000 crs worldwide. Just to set the record straight, we want to clarify that Dangal's official worldwide gross collection figure as of Thursday is 1864 crores." The 2016 sports biopic, has, so far earned Rs 1864 crores and is quickly become the highest grossing Indian film internationally and has been setting new records for the film industry globally. ‘Dangal' is also the highest earning Indian movie in China.

The spokesperson also added, "We are very happy that our film has been so successful, and what is of most value for Aamir Khan and the entire team of Dangal is the immense love the film has got from the audience across the globe. We are looking forward for the film to release in other untapped territories to reach more audience."

Dangal was a biopic directed by Nitesh Tiwari and was released on December 23, 2016. Based on he life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita, the movie essays the life and training that Geeta and babita go through to become world-class wrestlers. The film has Aamir Khan playing Mahavir Singh Phogat along with Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim, Suhani Bhatnagar and Aparshakti Khurana.

Aamir Khan and Fatima will reunite for Yash Raj Film's latest 'Hindostan', directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya .
