Danseuse Shoma Kaikini had never imagined that she would be called to choreograph a dance sequence in a Bollywood film.

But the classical dancer, who runs a dance school did just that, and was really excited to be a part of the film. Shoma talks to CS about how dancing should be given more importance in films:

Dancing in Bollywood
Dancing must be given more importance in films. Dancing is a beautiful way of expressing yourself. In fact, there is always a good response when we go abroad to perform. So I feel that the way the dances are executed, is important for its success.

Understanding dance
Some of the Bollywood stars do understand the classical dances and are very graceful, but I know some are really bad at dancing as well. Rani Mukerjee, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Vidya Balan and even Sonam Kapoor are good dancers.

My favourites
My favourite dancer when it comes to women is Madhuri Dixit and among men, it's Hrithik Roshan. I admire Madhuri a lot as her expressions and body movements are very graceful. I like the way she dances. As for Hrithik, I feel he's a born dancer and has some really nice moves.

Classical dance is by itself very beautiful. It is like the mothertongue of dances. It's on the basis of this that one can learn other dance forms. It is difficult to learn classical dance and also difficult to understand it. It is an art to simplify the classical dance so that everyone understands it.

Choreographing the dance sequence in Bombay Talkies was a like a dream come true. I never thought that I will be able to choreograph a sequence for a Bollywood film, but I did it. I was skeptical about doing the project but the experience turned out to be really good and I enjoyed it a lot. Working with Zoya was fun as she is a good person to work with and her team respected us a lot.u00a0
