It wouldn't be wrong if I said that I earned only to shop, confesses actor Riya Sen

"It wouldn't be wrong if I said that I earned only to shop," confesses actor Riya Sen. This lady has seven cupboards full of clothes with the rest of her dresses stashed away in suitcases and bags. Though she dislikes her materialistic streak a 'bit', the sight of a pretty dress is enough to change her mind. Riya who will be next seen in films like Tere Mere Phere, Noukodoobi, Tara Sitara and Mariam shares her craze for shopping with CS:

Confessions of a shopaholic

Whenever my mom (Moon Moon Sen) is in town, Raima and I talk her into taking us out for shopping. The whole thing about seeing new stuff, trying it out and finally taking it home is so much fun. Mom is also a shopaholic so I guess that shopping runs in our genes. At home, our Bengali maids are fed up.

Every time I enter in with a shopping bag, they remind me that I need to buy another cupboard. So, I lie saying that I got the stuff really cheap or that they were gifted to me.u00a0 It's the same with Raima. We come to know about each other's shopping sprees through our maids. The thing is, if I like a particular dress I buy ten varieties of it. I am so possessive about certain outfits that I haven't even worn them, fearing that they will get spoilt somehow.u00a0

Shop till I drop

I buy both branded as well as non-branded clothes as long as the items look good on me. My favourite brands are Jean Paul Gaultier, Stella McCartney, Armani, Ed Hardy, Diesel, Roberto Cavalli etc. At times, my parents get very irritated with my shopping.

But recently my mom bought me some jewellery for Durga Puja. And she will again take me out shopping when I go to Kolkata later this month (winks). She thinks that we are damn greedy. My favourite shopping haunts are Istanbul, London, Italy and Dubai. In fact, some months ago I made successive trips to Dubai and shopped a lot on every trip. Presently, I am shopping for a close friend's wedding that's next month. My designer has folded her hands and told me to stop. She's like "Riya, I am benefiting from your shopping, but please, you have done enough."

Style and me

My style statement keeps changing. I would say that I like stuff that's cute and feminine. I am not a Tomboy. Though I have a lot of everything, I would say that I have a fetish for sexy sunglasses.

My style icons are the late Maharani Gayatri Devi, Sushmita Sen and my mom. I think that the essentials for any girl's wardrobe are a pair of well-fitted jeans, a white shirt, comfortable shoes and glares.
