The Hollywood film 'Godzilla' has done decently well, although it fell short of industry expectations

Trade pundits say that box office numbers of the films that released last week are not up to the mark and they attribute it to crowds staying glued to the TV screen on Friday, which was also the election results day.

Vishal Anand of Fun Cinemas says, "Hollywood film, Godzilla, which released last Friday, has done well at the box office, followed by Himesh Reshammiya's film, The Xpose. In fact, the collections of Godzilla are twice that of The Xpose but the Hollywood film also had more shows; it had 50% more screens than The Xpose.
The weekdays saw a very low turnout. Politics seems to have dominated the weekend rather than films.''
Exhibitor Rajesh Thadani however points out that they expected Godzilla to do better than it has. He says, "The film has only made around Rs 18 crore in the first weekend and this was far below our expectations. We hope that 2 States will cross the Rs 100 crore mark this week.''
Himesh Reshammiya's The Xpose, on the other hand, has crossed Rs 9.5 crore in its first weekend. "But one will have to wait and watch to know how it performs this week," says trade analyst Vikas Mohan.
