Forty-one years of experience in the field of entertainment, and actress Farida Jalal still continues to be her bubbly self. Soon to take space on our small screen once again, Farida talks to CS about the changes in the industry that she loves dearly:
Break ke baad
I have been away from television for too long since Shararat. But it's not that easy to say yes to every offer that comes your way. My first choice is always the script; it has to be good. Also, television demands a lot of time, energy and planning, so its tough to commit to. However, I've enjoyed every role that I've played, be it in films or on TV. And like my onscreen happy-go-lucky image, I'm a very contented person in real life too. Everyday I thank Allah for all that he's given me.
Changing concerns
Yes, the industry has changed by leaps and bounds over the years, for the good as well as the bad. We have the best of technology, directors and a crop of good actors like Vinay Pathak, Konkona Sen Sharma, Ranvir Shorey, etc. What we lack is quality content. Good scripts will work wonders for the entertainment world.
When films like Udaan can be made and get acceptance from the audience, why are we afraid
to take risks? My personal favourite is Khosla ka Ghosla; it's a fantastic film. It's really heartening to see that the audience understands and enjoys a good film even if they are sans a big star.
Old is gold
But I have to say that there's no one who can match Dilip Kumar's charm. He is the best. I don't want to take names, but many people have become stars because of him. He is the epitome of versatility. After him, I like Amitabh Bachchan. His performance in Paa left me speechless. I want to walk up to the man and say 'you are out of this world!'
