Salman Khan
The lowdown: Salman has always been surrounded by controversies - be it his hit-and-run case, the blackbuck poaching case or his fight with Shah Rukh Khan. His relationships with women has always been a talking point. Some of the women he dated - from Sangeeta Bijlani and Somi Ali to Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif - apparently even made him turn violent. This, combined with his tendency to take people under his wings and make or break their career, is quite fascinating.
Rajesh Khanna
The lowdown: The country's first superstar enjoyed immense popularity after delivering back-to-back hits. His link ups with Tina Munim (now, Ambani) his marriage with Dimple Kapadia, their subsequent separation and his lonely days, as also his companion, Anita Advani - all these elements make for a fascinating film. That his son-in-law Akshay Kumar brokered peace between him and Dimple, took care of him in his last days and looked into their ongoing property dispute with Anita would definitely add to the script.
Jiah Khan
The lowdown: A British American actress and singer, Jiah was inspired to take up acting after watching Rangeela and made her debut in Ram Gopal Varma's Nishabd opposite Amitabh Bachchan. On June 3 last year, she was found dead in her Juhu apartment. Initial reports suggested that she had committed suicide after a fight with boyfriend Sooraj Panscholi, son of actor Aditya Panscholi. He was then arrested for abetment of suicide and was later released on bail. Both families then hurled accusations at each other. Her mother Rabia has claimed that the police has ignored some key evidence and has demanded a reinvestigation.
Rekha
The lowdown: Rekha has always been a recluse. However, the daughter of Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan and Telegu actress Pushpavalli has led a turbulent love life. While it was rumoured that she was secretly married to Vinod Mehra, her official marriage to Delhi-based businessman Mukesh Aggarwal ended in tragedy as he committed a suicide within a year of their marriage.
Zeenat Aman
The lowdown: A former runner up in the Miss India pageant in the '70s, Zeenat epitomised glamour in Bollywood. Zeenat's father was a scriptwriter; her mother separated from him and married a German and took her along to Germany. She returned to India at the age of 18. Her first job was with a fashion magazine. Apparently, both - her relationship with Sanjay Khan and later on, her marriage to Mazhar Khan - had turned violent. Mazhar Khan died in the late '90s and now the actress is said to be seeing a politician from Nashik.
Divya Bharti
The lowdown: She entered in the industry at a very young age and had only studied till her ninth standard. At the age of 18, she got married to filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala, who she had met on the sets of Shola Aur Shabnam; prior to this, she was linked to many actors. Their marriage was apparently kept a secret so that she could pursue her acting career and sort out opposition from both their families. She reportedly changed her religion after the wedding. In April 1993, she died after falling from Sajid's fifth floor residence. Her post mortem reports revealed that she had consumed a lot of alcohol and there were various theories on how she met her end. But there were no evidence supporting any of these and her death continues to be a mystery.
Mandakini
The lowdown: Born to an Anglo-Indian family in Meerut, she made her acting debut in Ram Teri Ganga Maili. In the film, she was shown wearing a see-through sari and breast-feeding a baby, both of which created a furore back then. Her second claim to fame was when her pictures with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim were leaked out. She, however, denied reports that she had married the latter. After failing to revive her career, she married a Buddhist monk, Dr Kagyur T Rinpoche Thakur.
