During the shoot of her upcoming film Phillauri, Anushka Sharma found a special place for Phulkari, the colorful, vibrant threadwork integral to Punjabi culture.
With her love for Phulkari reflecting in her outfits in the family entertainer, Anushka took it upon herself to source and find the best local fabrics and handloom for the characters, adding dollops of ethnic flavour to the film.
Says a source from the film's set, "Anushka bought a huge amount of fabric from a local market in Punjab for the shoot. Her co-actor Mehreen Pirzada's mother is well versed with that area and she helped her get quality Phulkari fabrics and unique pieces from a silversmith there. Anushka also bought a lot of jewellery from that man since she believes in supporting local craftsmen. She even got her Patiala salwars stitched by a tailor in that city."
