AMRITA RAO
The Movies I Loved Growing Up
The actress picks her flicks...
HALF TICKET: I remember calling a video library. I wanted to see a Kishore Kumar comedy with my family and randomly picked this VHS up. It remains the most hilarious film I've seen till date. It sees Kishore Kumar at his most eccentric and uninhibited self. Him in a nightie while Madhubala plays a complete opposite is something only he could do. It was a very fascinating combination. And I just can't forget the song Aake Seedhi Lagi where Kishore sings in two voices. And you can't miss Pran in that songu00c3u00a2u00c2u0080u00c2u00a6
JUNGLE BOOK: I watched this one during the phase when one watches the same film over and over again. As a kid, Mowgli was so appealing and cute. I was a diehard Mowgli fan. I found him most adorable in the scenes where he'd slide down trees and eat bananas on the go. In fact, I'd keep waiting till the VHS rolled to the last scene where he meets this village girl. The ending where he follows her out of the jungle was perfect for the making of another film. I seriously wish they had made the sequel.
THE SOUND OF MUSIC: This was a film my dad introduced me to, when he got the VHS of this one, home. As a kid, Julie Andrews and the von Trapps and the chemistry between them fascinated me. I remember this one scene at a von Trapp party where the governess choreographs a song, wherein the nine kids say goodbye to the guests. Simply amazing!
NAGINA: A woman turning into a snake and a snake turning back into a woman was just WOW at the time. Loved the blue lenses Sridevi wore in the film. As a kid, it enthralled me to see a snake woman, a deserted palace, the nagmani..... Everything about that film stands out. It held some charm. There were convincing performances all around.
HUM KISI SE KUM NAHIN: It was one of those films you remember only because of the songs. I remember the heroine, Kaajal Kiran being very beautiful. Absolutely loved the songs, especially this one: Humko To Yaara Teri Yaari; and one where there's sort of a duet/dance-off between Rishi Kapoor and Tariq. I really liked all the tracks in that medley. I'd say it was the highlight of the film.
