Industry folks cheer for the music maestro AR Rahman ahead of his Mumbai concert, part of an India tour that marks his silver jubilee in Bollywood

With musical masterpieces involving the soundtracks of Taal (1999), Rockstar (2011) and the Academy Award-winning Slumdog Millionaire (2008), AR Rahman won the hearts of the masses as well as industry folk. Tables turn as Bollywood's A-listers turn into glee-eyed fans ahead of the AR Rahman Encore concert in Mumbai, marking his silver jubilee in the industry. They talk to mid-day about the influence of Rahman on their lives.

AR Rahman

Aamir Khan

He is among the most amazing and creative people in the Indian film industry. His contribution to Indian cinema is huge. He is a magician. I am a fan.

Ranbir Kapoor

He has contributed to not only music, but also the culture of our country. I love him. There is nobody like him.

Anil Kapoor

I witnessed Rahman receiving the Oscar in 2009. I wanted to go up, dance and celebrate, but I controlled my emotions. I will only congratulate him when he completes 50 years.

Sonam Kapoor

I became famous because of his song, Masakali, from Delhi-6 (2009). I love the film's soundtrack, with Arziyan being my favourite. I also love Tum Tak from Raanjhanaa (2013). We met at a party after Raanjhanaa's music released. It was kind of him to ask for my opinion about the music.

Alia Bhatt

Rahman sir's 25 years have been amazing for us. I'm privileged to have worked with him.

Parineeti Chopra

His music is evergreen. He is a genius. My favourite song is Tere Bina from Guru (2007). I can listen to it every day. I congratulate him for giving us 25 melodious years.
I hope he reaches a century.

Arshad Warsi

I was shooting for a film in South Mumbai when the song Muqabla Muqabla released in 1994. The cast and crew was outside a wine shop. The background dancers and I started dancing in the middle of the road. It was hilarious.

Ajay Devgn

He has done two films, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh (TLOBS, 2002) and Yuva (2004), with me and the soundtracks of both were fabulous. The title track of TLOBS gives me goosebumps.

Ayushmann Khurrana

He was a clutter-breaker when he started out with Roja (1992). He created eclectic sounds that were entirely his. I love the songs in Rockstar (2011) and Rangeela (1995).

Irrfan Khan

The way AR Rahman has cultivated his music is amazing. I wish every artiste has an enriching journey, like his, where they evolve and work at the same time.

Arjun Kapoor

Rahman sir is going from strength to strength. In 25 years, he has taken India to the world. He is a gifted person.

Richa Chadha

Once, I had to cry for a play on stage. I'd sing Luka Chuppi from Rang De Basanti (2006) before going on stage. The song is so emotional. I also sang it while filming for Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012). This is how AR Rahman's music helped me.
