Defamation case by Javed Akhtar
Poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar has filed a criminal defamation complaint against Kangana, for her allegations against him in regards to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, during a television interaction. The complaint filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Andheri stated that Kangana, during an interview with an English news channel, said Bollywood was run by the mafia. She named Akhtar as one of the celebrities who were a part of the mafia. Akhtar alleged that the video of the interview was watched by millions on YouTube alone, thereby damaging his reputation.

The defamation case is based upon a complaint filed in January 2021 by Mohinder Kaur where she alleged that during the farmer protests, Kangana had made a defamatory tweet wherein "false imputations and remarks" were made against Kaur. In the alleged tweet, Mohinder Kaur was compared with the "Dadi" at Shaheen Bagh and it was stated that such protestors could be hired. Based on the alleged tweet, the lady farmer, filed a complaint before the Magistrate Court, Bathinda, seeking initiation of criminal proceedings Under sections 499, and 500 for defamation against Kangana Ranaut as she had made false imputations.
Defamation cases by Aditya Pancholi
In 2017, Aditya Pancholi along with his wife Zarina Wahab lodged four defamation cases against Kangana and her sister Rangoli after they went on multiple public platforms to make allegations against Aditya and his wife. In the defamation suit filed against Kangana and her sister, Aditya and his wife alleged that the 'Queen' actor tried to malign his image on national television and her sister tried to ruin his image on social media by falsely accusing him of things. Kangana alleged that she was in an abusive relationship with Aditya when she was a newcomer and that he misused her. Rangoli had also applied to the Versova police station in May, claiming that her sister was exploited and abused by Aditya. However, Aditya, in turn, filed a counter-application.
Copyright violation case
In 2021, a city court directed Mumbai Police to file an FIR against actress Kangana Ranaut in a copyright violation case, filed by Ashish Kaul, author of the book "Didda: The Warrior Queen Of Kashmir". Kaul claimed that Kangana took material from his book without proper permission. His plea states that he holds the exclusive copyright to the life story of Didda, and Kangana has violated it by attempting to make the film, 'Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda', based on her life. Didda was the princess of Lohar (Poonch), and the queen of Kashmir. Kaul is a descendant of the queen.
Tweet on Farmers' Protest
In 2020, a Karnataka court ordered the registration of an FIR against Kangana for her now-deleted tweet on farmers' protests over the passed farm laws. The Tumkuru court's order came on a complaint, which was filed by lawyer Ramesh Naik. Farmers in some parts of the country, mainly in Punjab were protesting against the three farm laws- Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Service Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Provoking hate speeches
In October 2020, a complaint was filed against Kangana at a Mumbai court for "spreading hate and breaking the brotherhood, and integrity of the country" through "provoking hate speeches" given by her. The complainant, a Mumbai-based lawyer, advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, accused Ranaut of attacking not just the Maharashtra Police, and government in connection with the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, but of also "promoting enmity amongst our country people for her political gain".
Insulting post on Instagram
In 2021, a delegation led by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee president Manjinder Singh Sirsa lodged a complaint against Kangana Ranaut accusing her of "hateful" remarks and demanding the withdrawal of Padma Shri given to her. Sirsa had posted a complaint addressed to Delhi police on Twitter, alleging that it had been filed "for her disrespectful, contemptuous and insulting post on Instagram". Actor Kangana Ranaut, who received the Padma Shri Award earlier this month, lauded former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi saying she took decisive action against 'Khalistanis'. While also claiming that Indira Gandhi caused "suffering" to the nation, Kangana Ranaut said she crushed 'Khalistanis' like mosquitoes at the cost of her life.
