The 6th Jagran Film Festival will offer a mixed bag of commercial and experimental movies in various Indian languages


The Mumbai leg of the 6th Jagran Film Festival (JFF), which will be held between September 28 and October 4, promises to leave movie buffs spoilt for choice. The screenings at Fun Cinemas, Andheri, will offer a wide spectrum of Indian cinema from various regions.

The directors whose works are in contention include Anurag Kashyap (Bombay Velvet), Dibakar Banerjee (Detective Byomkesh Bakshy), Rajkumar Hirani (PK), Sriram Raghavan (Badlapur), Vishal Bhardwaj (Haider), Anand L Rai (Tanu Weds Manu Returns), Manju Bora (Dau Huduni Methai in Bodo), Kaushik Ganguly (Chotoder Chobi), Gajendra Ahire (Postcard in Marathi) and Shoojit Sircar (Piku).

The debut directors competing at this year's festival are Aditya Vikramsengupta (Asha Jaoar Majhe in Bengali), Harhsvardhan Kulkarni (Hunterrr in Hindi), Shiladitya Moulik (Mrs Scooter in Hindi), M Manikandan (Kaakka Muttai in Tamil), Pushpendra Singh (Lajwanti in Hindi) and Shinos and Sajas Rahman (Toymaker in Malayalam).

The best actor nominees include prominent names like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Aamir Khan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Amitabh Bachchan, Irrfan, Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Vicky Kaushal and R Madhavan, while the big names in the best female actor category are Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Kangana Ranaut, Kalki Koechlin and Bhumi Pednekar.
