62nd National Film Awards: Here's what the winners have to say

Kangna Ranaut has often stated that she does not hanker after honours and so, has been skipping award ceremonies. But winning the National Award for Best Actress for 'Queen' (2014) is something she cannot help but exult in.

For Kangs, who celebrated her birthday on Monday, it was perhaps the best gift she could have ever asked for. This is her second National Award - she had won the Best Supporting Actress title in 2008 for 'Fashion'. Now, it is unlikely that she will give this award-giving ceremony on May 3 a miss. 'Queen' directed by Vikas Bahl also won the Best Hindi Film award.

What the winners say...

'We were surprised'

Chaitanya Tamhane,Director of 'Court' which bagged Best Film award

"It is a great honour and we were pleasantly surprised. We were not expecting it. Considering that the film is releasing on April 17, there could not have been a bigger boost. This will hopefully make the audience aware of the film. For a debut filmmaker, it's a dream run that the film is having. I am happy that the entire team's efforts have been recognised."

Vivek Gomber Court's producer-actor

"It's an incredible honour. All the hard work and the efforts have paid off. I am incredibly happy for the cast and the crew, and for Chaitanya Tamhane. We have won 17 awards internationally, but this is the one that means the most. Now, we hope that everyone will come to the theatres on April 17."

'I am on top of the world'

Omung Kumar's film 'Mary Kom' won Best Popular Film

"I am feeling on top of the world… debut film and a National Award. I could not have asked for more. I want to thank Mary Kom for giving me her fabulous story, Sanjay (Leela Bhansali) sir, PC (Priyanka Chopra) and the cast and crew for making such a fabulous film with me."

'No one made a film on Kashmiri pandits earlier'

Vishal Bhardwaj, Director of 'Haider' which bagged five awards

"No one recognised Haider's music in any other film awards and now we get a National Award for it. I was surprised that no one made a film on the plight of Kashmiri pandits earlier."

'This is my first National award'

Sukhwinder Singh bagged the Best Playback award for 'Bismil Bismil' in 'Haider'

"This is my first National Award. The song is the perfect face of Indian opera and the two geniuses behind it are Gulzarsaab and Vishal Bhardwaj who described the entire narrative of the film through this song. I am grateful to have got the opportunity to work with them. After recording this song, I told myself that I need to work on my music, so that I could get more opportunities like 'Bismil Bismil'."

'I let out a cry of joy'

Dolly Ahluwalia bagged the National award for Best Costumes for Haider.

"I am in Chandigarh and got a call from Vishal's office informing me about the award. I was like, "What!" before I let out a cry of joy. I am drunk with happiness and wish I was in Mumbai to celebrate with the unit. Working with Vishal was such a unique experience and I am elated 'Haider' won so many awards. This is my third National award. I had bagged it earlier for Best Costume for 'Bandit Queen' (1994) and Best Supporting Actress for 'Vicky Donor' (2012)."

'It has justified our faith in meaningful movies'

Bhushan Kumar, Producer of 'Bhoothnath Returns' which got a Special Mention

"I am honoured by the special mention given by the National Awards Committee and on behalf of my team, I would like to thank them for the honour. We have always upheld cinematic values and this has further justified our faith in unique and meaningful movies."
