Veteran Hindi and Marathi actor Ajay Wadhavkar - best known for his role as Ganpat Havaldar in Doordarshan's TV show 'Nukkad' - who was battling throat cancer, passed away in Pune on Friday.

Wadhavkar, who was last seen on TV in 'Pavitra Rishta' as Sushant Singh Rajput's father was undergoing treatment at Mumbai's Nanavati hospital.

The actor was also facing a financial crisis and Bollywood's popular comic actor Johnny Lever lent him a helping hand.
The actor, who had acted in films like 'Yes Boss', 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' and 'English Babu Desi Mem', had admittedly failed to manage his career and finances, and was struggling financially.
Bollywood's popular comic legend Johnny Lever had also helped him out financialy even promising to raise funds for him by getting the industry involved.
