She has hits like Pareshaan (Ishaqzaade; 2012) and Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai (Sultan; 2016) to her credit. But when Shalmali Kholgade started out as a singer, she had different aspirations.
"My dream was to do independent music. Suddenly, Pareshan came my way and that's how my Bollywood career kicked off. Bollywood can take up a lot of your time. Once into it, you hardly get time to do anything else. I am finally getting back to my original plan, which is to do my own music," says Shalmali, whose first single, Aye, released on her YouTube channel yesterday.
The singer, who is one of the judges on the reality singing show, Dil Hai Hindustani, says the theme of the track is freedom and gender equality. "I plan to release singles frequently. I have finished working on my second song as well," she says.
