'Hindi literature waiting for its Chetan Bhagat'

Every human being is on a journey, we explore, experiment and learn new things, but still feel lost. The recently released book, Dil Dhoondhta Hai, delves upon man's conscious and subconscious mind. The Hindi fiction is written by Rakesh Madhotra. "The book is about the journey of a man who wants to discover his beliefs and the reality of the world. It's a journey of a man's break ups and the people he meets," says the author.

Madhotra is confident of generating an interest among the youth for his book. "I have written it in such a way that it will create curiosity and it will be picked up." When asked about the youth's lack of interest in reading Hindi books, Madhotra says, "Most people read English books because of their quest for language improvement, not for learning from its content. Chetan Bhagat has inculcated the reading habit in today's youth by finding a connect due to his youth-centric content. We need a Chetan Bhagat in Hindi fiction and I am trying to be the one."

When asked if he believes that reading is associated with literary pursuits, he says, "Our literary scholars have created a barrier between readers and non-readers. People think book readers are from the literary community, but books are for all. This barrier has to be removed." The author says the educational system in the country only promotes the English language in school and parents are also to be blamed. "Hindi books are not appreciated," he says. Expressing his concern about online reading, he says, "Online reading has good and bad effects. Books have a wider audience, but it poses a threat to the publishers and the writers."
