Though Dubai is one of the biggest markets for Bollywood films outside India, it seems the cast and crew of Grand Masti may not see their film release in the desert emirate anytime soon. The adult sex comedy joins the bandwagon of other releases like OMG: Oh My God! and Raaz 3 that was stopped short of hitting the marquee in Dubai.
The Vivek Oberoi-Aftab Shivdasani-Ritesih Deshmukh starrer was to release in Dubai yesterday but was not given the green signal by the authorities.
Our Dubai-based source says, "The film was screened for the authorities a few days ago but they found the content not suitable for screening. The film will be reviewed again."
Insiders at the Media Content Tracking Department, National Media Council in Dubai, say, "The film is under review and a detailed report will be tabled. Certain unsuitable portions would have to be censored."
Theatre owners, who were set to screen the film, have pulled it out of their weekly schedule.
Initially, across the states of Punjab and Haryana, there was a stay order on the film for alleged âvulgar dialogues' and âobscene content'. But as per the latest reports, the stay has been lifted and the film will be released as per the schedule.
