To make Alia Bhatt's outfit, Sabyasachi wanted to embrace nature and steer clear of what he saw as too much focus on technology. He aimed to highlight the beauty of handmade craftsmanship, which he believes preserves culture over time. The saree was made by a team of 163 artisans in India, who spent around 1965 hours working on it over several months. Besides the detailed design of the saree, Sabyasachi also designed a fancy bralette for Bhatt, adorned with precious gems like emeralds, pearls, tourmalines, and sapphires, reflecting India's rich jewelry tradition.
Bhatt teamed up with her longtime stylist and red carpet partner Anaita Shroff Adajania to interpret the theme of this year's Met exhibition, titled 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.'
As per Vogue, Alia Bhatt explained that the design of the saree, with its translucent, glass-like appearance, pays homage to the otherworldly beauty of the garden in Ballard's story and celebrates the intricate craftsmanship of saree-making. Inspired by the whimsical elements of the story, such as ruffles, tassels, sequins, and gemstones, Bhatt's outfit draws from the fantastical life of Count Axel and his wife.
The saree with floral patterns perfectly fits the garden theme of the event. The 3D flowers popping out against the light fabric create a beautiful contrast, bringing the garden concept to reality. The green saree itself is stunning, but the long pallu with a train adds an extra wow factor. And to top it off, the butterfly blouse with ruffled sleeves adds a nice touch to the ensemble.
Her hairstyle and makeup are key to completing the look. She opted for a playful bun that seems straight out of a fairy tale garden, adorned with large jewels from Sabyasachi. The hairband matches her drop earrings perfectly. Her makeup focused on a radiant, dewy complexion highlighted with natural pink tones.
