How did you approach the production process to meet the high standards of such a prestigious festival?
Mr. Shah: During pre-production, a producer wears many hats. My primary responsibilities include securing funding, developing the script, coordinating locations, and working closely with the director and other key staff to ï¬Ânalize the project plan. It's a crucial phase that sets the foundation for the entire production.
Interviewer: Your ï¬Âlm was also selected for the Micheaux Film Festival, which has partnerships with Roku, Amazon/MGM, and the Oprah Winfrey Network, as well as the 14th International Pune Short Film Festival. How do these selections reï¬Âect on your work?
Mr. Shah: These selections demonstrate the broad appeal of our ï¬Âlm. The Micheaux Film Festival, in particular, celebrates the legacy of African-American ï¬Âlmmaker Oscar Micheaux and has strong industry connections. The Pune Short Film Festival selection showcases our ï¬Âlm's global reach. Together, these selections highlight our ability to resonate with diverse audiences.
Interviewer: Let's talk about another of your ï¬Âlms, "Comatose," which you both directed and produced. It was selected for the PlayShort International Film Awards and earned semi-ï¬Ânalist status at the Cinematography Awards Foundation. What does this mean for you as a ï¬Âlmmaker?
Mr. Shah: These achievements for "Comatose" are particularly meaningful to me as I took on both directing and producing roles. The PlayShort International Film Awards is known for its rigorous selection process, so being chosen validates our work. Translating their musical vision into a visual narrative was an exciting challenge. The semi-ï¬Ânalist status at STTP, a globally recognized platform, was a great validation of our efforts.
