As a result, many couples are separated on lines of class, religion, caste, or more. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Delhi, this show features a stellar cast with Apoorva Arora as the protagonist, along with Sonali Sachdev, the late Nitesh Pandey, Aakarshan Singh, Prakhar Singh, and Masood Akhtar, who bring to life this light-hearted yet meaningful watch. Created by Civic Studios, a global media company creating entertainment for social change, written by Manoj Kalwani, and directed by Parikshit Joshi, âFamily Aaj Kal' offers a relatable glimpse into the generational differences in a modern, middle class family around ideas of love, marriage, and and an unexpected question when it comes to choosing a life partner- âkoi kaam actually chhota nahi hota?'.
At the heart of this show is Meher, a 26-year-old woman facing a challenge when she decides to make her family meet her new boyfriend, Gaurav, who happens to be a cab driver. With her parents, Faiza and Shekhar Kashyap, being an interfaith couple, Meher expects them to embrace love above all else. Her parents themselves take pride in their liberal outlook, and want their kids to have every freedom that they did not enjoy. But they face a dilemma when they are not able to digest Gaurav's profession.
Their anxious concerns are explored with a quirky twist, with their son Sahir caught between being their partner in crime vs his loyalty to his elder sister. Will Meher be able to get them to prioritize her happiness and look past worries of âlog kya kahenge'? As the narrative unfolds, Shekhar and Faiza are compelled to confront their own conditioning around class and job status. Will they be able to embrace their daughter's choice wholeheartedly, give Gaurav a chance for the person he is, and respect his career choice as a cab driver? The journey of Meher, Gaurav and her family is a sweet, wholesome watch on both generations growing together, each taking steps to bridge the gap in their differing opinions, and creating space for acceptance, mutual respect, forgiveness, and ultimately, love. .

"With Family Aaj Kal, we tried to bring to life the conflicts around a choice of partner we see in our homes; the rhythmic chaos that follows and the (unintentionally) humorous arguments, antics & drama of families it brings in. The intent was to portray that generational clashes do come out of ideological differences but also (in this case) out of deep underlying love" remarks Parikshit Joshi, Director of the series.
