Sreelata Menon's journey as an author is as diverse as the topics she writes about. With a Master's in History from Mumbai University, her career began in the 1970s as an Assistant Editor with the Onlooker and World Trade Magazines. This role not only honed her writing and editing skills but also sparked her interest in storytelling.
After a period of teaching History to undergraduates and working as an Accounts Executive/Copywriter in an advertising agency, Sreelata made the bold decision to pursue full-time freelance writing. Since her transition to children's literature, Sreelata has authored thirteen books with two more due this year, each exploring different facets of history, mythology, and culture. Her biographies of 'Guru Nanak' and 'Indira Gandhi' for Puffin-Penguin showcase her ability to bring historical figures to life for young readers.
Sreelata's exploration of stories from classics like Aithihyamala for DC Books and 30 Indian rishis and rishikas' for Harper Collins highlights her commitment to researching and presenting lesser-known aspects of Indian history. Her work also includes a mystery - of a vanishing tramp for Haranand Books, stories on siblings -Fearless Twins-and friends-Invincible Heroes- from world mythology as well as âAmazing Buildings of the World' for Hachette, demonstrating her ability to engage readers with diverse subjects.
In 2024, Sreelata's dedication to writing was recognized with the Sahitya Sparsh Award for two of her books. 'Learned Men and Women of Ancient India,' a non-fiction work, and 'Epicurious,' a collection of the world's greatest epics and famous classics from India were both celebrated for their informative and engaging narratives.
