Surat's Hearts at Work Foundation and Sardar Patel Uttar Buniyadi Ashramshala of Sachin undertook the distribution of 21,000 Sita Ashok tree, which have a noteworthy mention in Ramayana.
The distribution of the Sita Ashok trees was organised by noted industrialist Viral Desai, popularly known as Greenman, for his unique environmental initiatives. He has pledged to deliver the Sita Ashok saplings to maximum people and their homes to commemorate the upcoming consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He has also announced the development of five urban forests comprising only Sita Ashok trees.
Sharing his thoughts about the initiative, Greenman Viral Desai said, "We believe that Lord Ram exists in each and every particle. The Lord is also present in the air we breathe. It is our constant endeavor to ensure that the air we breathe is pure. At a time when we are about to witness the grand consecration of the Ram Temple, we want to contribute to pure air, which is why we have undertaken the distribution of Sita Ashok trees today."

Former state minister Narottambhai Patel, social leader Bharatbhai Shah, Dr Jignasa Oza of Gujarat Pollution Control Board, and social worker Ritu Rathi graced the occasion. Representatives of various prominent organisations were also present at the event. They were honored with the Sita Ashok tree and a copy of Ramcharitmanas.
Narottambhai Patel and former mayor Gita Desai, who are trustees of the Uttar Buniyadi Ashramshala, expressed their happiness at the gesture. Bharatbhai Shah congratulated Hearts at Work Foundation and Greenman Viral Desai for their commitment to conserving the environment.
The Sita Ashok tree is considered a sacred tree. It is worth noting that in the Ramayana, Mother Sita is described as sitting under the Ashok tree in Ashok Vatika. It is said that the Sita Ashok tree helps in reducing sorrow and also attracts abudnace.The tree also has references in Ayurveda for various medicinal benefits.
Greenman Viral Desai has undertaken the plantation of more than four lakh trees so far and is also the driving force behind the green Udhna Railway Station in Surat.
