Everything behind Instagram's recent surge in disabling influencer accounts

Off late, Instagram has been introducing many new features including quite a lot of exciting options for the creator community. Not just this, the platform has been witnessing a continuous rise in new active users. Naturally, this also brought in many bugs and technical glitches. However, when it comes to influencers, every activity is important and the sudden pause severely affects their online presence.

"There could be many reasons behind a particular account being disabled on Instagram. There could be legal reasons, a sudden increase in followers or a technical glitch that was just unfortunate. However, today, we have many influencers who are into full-time content creation and for creators like these, disabling accounts means the end of everything they do for a living, especially in a country like India where Instagram is the single most popular platform, unlike the West who has creators also active on Tik-Tok." shares Pushppal Singh Bhatia of That Couple Though who also recently got disabled but soon recovered their account.

Adding to this, Instagram's policies on account recovery are also not certain. Every account has to go through a different timeline of recovery and for some, unfortunately, the account is gone forever. "The audience is an influencer's biggest asset. Although Instagram's limitations and bugs are understandable, with content creation becoming such a big career path for so many young and budding influencers, it is absolutely unfair when your entire career gets ripped off due to a technical issue with the platform," adds Ravneet Kaur.

This random disabling of accounts has led Instagram to face a massive backlash from the global influencer community and has had a drastic impact on full-time content creators. But even then, the platform remains to be the single most used platform in the country and influencers can only stay optimistic that this could get better.
