Creating, conceptualizing music projects across several different genres is Tabla maestro HARSHAD KANETKAR’s versatility

Having performed in concerts, various music festivals and international concerts as a Tabla soloist and with well renowned vocalists, instrumentalists and classical dancers and played in many recordings for commercial albums, Harshad Kanetkar is been widely acclaimed for his crispness and clarity of his technique and a total command of rhythm which are the classic hallmarks of his style.

Kanetkar is a versatile Tabla player having mastery in playing Tabla with different genres like classical vocal, instrumental, tabla solo, dance and also to play different styles of music like Hindustani, Carnatic style, world music like Jazz music and several others. Harshad has learned tabla since his early age from Shri. Mukhade and later from Pt. Ramdas Palsule and Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar.

Harshad Kanetkar has conceptualized projects like Soundscape, Sangam, Strings N Beats and performs all over USA, Canada, India. He has conceptualized the upcoming World music - TRINITY, a Jazz project which is the unity of 3 maestros - the multiple Grammy award winner Saxophone & clarinet player Jeffrey Barnes, well known drummer Steve Pounty and Harshad Kanetkar playing the tabla. Trinity will be coming out by the end of this year.

Another upcoming project is RESONANCE by Pandit Ronu Majumdar (flutist) and Harshad Kanetkar (Tabla) which should be out early next year. The duo will be touring to the USA and Canada for performing in concerts over 15 cities by April-May 2023.

This maestro is a rare Tabla player who performs with such different genres and has conceptualized and produced a wide variety of projects; that is his uniqueness. There are very few Tabla players who have conceptualized different compositions. Unlike any ready format or pattern, the challenge and art lies in creating such a varied composition. It is this originality that makes Harshad Kanetkar one of the rarest musicians of our country. He has established a Tabla school in North Texas (DFW) Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area where over 90 students, most of them of Indian origin born and raised in America and a few Americans who are learning percussion and Tabla under his guidance.

Speaking about today's youngsters, Kanetkar says, "Tabla is the most dynamic instrument, soothing and melodic, influential and a powerful percussion instrument in Indian music. Youth is attracted towards Tabla for its sound and tonal quality. This is what makes Tabla as a most popular percussion instrument."

Having performed and shared the stage with stalwart musicians like Pt. Jasraj, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pt.Ronu Majumdar and several others Harshad Kanetkar speaks about his goal in life, "I want to make the best of our Indian Classical music as popular as we can among the youth generation. There are many who have yet to experience the richness and get to know the essence of Indian Classical music, our culture and tradition."

Harshad Kanetkar will be performing live in Trinity concerts beginning with 4th of February 2023 and Resonance performance will be in April 2023.
