Today, the terms cryptocurrencies, decentralized, Metaverse, and NFTs are some of the widely used terms in the society; terms that didn’t exist or weren’t as known about a decade ago. Last year, NFT marketplaces and collections attracted at least $44 billion worth of Ethereum.

Megaland Aliens

Well known NFT projects such as CryptoPunks and Bored Apes Yacht Club have attracted billions of investments; more news is popping up every day that celebrities are trying to own a piece form such collections. In this paper we are looking at the future trends and how/when to enter NFT market if you have been late into the game.

NFT stands for Non-Fungible Tokens. These are digital items that can be bought and sold using cryptocurrencies on the blockchain technology. The term Not fungible means that each item is different from another and while to might look similar there must be some differences. On the other hand, the value and popularity of each item or NFT would take a different path. From technical point of view, NFTs make it possible to buy and sell ownership of unique digital items such images, drawing, moving pictures, 3D art, memes, songs, and in general anything unique that is available in digital world. On top of that, many people are trying to digitalize ownership of non-digital assets like houses, luxury watches, etc. Now, the question is when to enter the NFT game if you are not already in.

If you are actively involved in NFT investment and trades you are already on top of the game and you know the values. I have seen many people in crypto market that don't tap into NFTs domain; I compare this group with people who hear a lot about cryptocurrency but are afraid to try it. Many wealthy people popping up daily on social media have had their fortune made in the blockchain technology. Just to give you an idea, many influencers on social media are only accepting crypto currencies for doing promotional works. Indeed, the right question now is not "should I enter the NFT market?" but is "when and how should I enter?

In answering when, many would advise yesterday was better than today. After all, people who invest first, get to harvest first. The next question is what I will try to focus in the rest of this article. As you know, fame and popularity go hand in hand so it is a no brainer that owning an NFT from collections like CryptoPunks or the NFT of the first tweet would have a better return in the future. But as you guessed you would need to be a wealthy person in order to afford. As many wouldn't fall under this category, lets explore another option; buying in early stages.

To buy in early stages you should find and track capable NFT projects before they launch and start minting. Minting in this scenario means that the person who is minting is the first person that takes the ownership of the items by entering them to the blockchain. These NFT collections usually offer whitelist spots by raffles or competitions in order to guarantee ownerships of some of their items to their followers. They might even offer discounted prices to the whitelisted buyers for minting, so right of the bat, the person who is whitelisted gets some benefits. Just to give you an idea, a recent project named Laid Back llamas, offered an exclusive 1-day minting period to their whitelists and when the public sale started it sold out in less than 2 minutes. In less than a month, the collection has traded over 2700 Eth, at the time of writing this article. After the public minting end, the entire collection will be on the blockchain and the value of items would contribute to the value of the collection or the other way around. The point that we can take from here is that the NFT collection purpose, the story behind the project, the art, and the community would all take parts in the success of particular projects.

Now, lets look at an example of an early-stage project that might expose you to a great start in the NFT world; Megaland Aliens is one of my favourite projects that is trending right now; launch of their project is in the 2nd half of February. What caught me my attention about this project and to see a good potential was the unique artistic style and the story behind it. The art that is seemingly developed by a Canadian artist is taking a surrealistic approach with portraits of alien looking creatures. What gets more interesting is the story that they have shared on their website, the story of a shared dream by many people on earth. Based on their social media posts, this collection is benefiting from Carl Jung dream theories and also art style of Salvador Dali. Carl Jung is one the most famous psychiatrists with many contributions on understanding people and their dreams. Salvador Dali was also a renowned surrealistic painter. The Megaland Aliens team has provided a good roadmap that would transfer the project direction to owners and everyone would eb able to contribute to the success of the collection.
