My culinary journey ignited at 18, as I ventured into a hotel's professional kitchen. Though my parents permitted just a month of training, it left an indelible mark. The kitchen's symphony of sounds, the aroma, precise chopping, and tandoor's flames ignited an unquenchable passion. Yet, life's demands shifted my focus. After my mother's passing, I aimed to honour her culinary legacy. Her exceptional skill and dream of a restaurant inspired me. Thus, I began My Culinary Cottage on social media, a tribute reflecting her aspirations. The name, suggested by my sister, signifies where I nurture my culinary love.

What inspires you as a chef and influences your cooking style?

My mother, my unwavering support, has been my guiding light. My son's beliefs and honest critiques propel me to challenge norms. As a chef, I blend tradition and innovation to meet modern demands. Repackaging classics, like dal chawal turning into arancini balls or roti-sabzi becoming wraps, drives my fusion creations. From sprouts sabzi to kebabs, I push boundaries while retaining the essence.

How would you describe your signature dish, and what makes it special?

Within my culinary repertoire, there isn't a solitary "signature dish," for each creation resonates deeply within me. The significance lies in the personal connection I share with every dish. Despite its cliché, the truth remains: "Love is the secret ingredient" that infuses every creation with its unique essence.

How do you balance creativity and tradition in your dishes?

In my culinary journey, harmonising creativity and tradition is paramount. I honour tradition within each dish while embracing innovative plating and presentation. The core of re-created dishes must hold the essence of the original. After all, can anything surpass the authenticity of the original?

Can you share some tips for cooks looking to elevate their culinary skills?

Aspiring home cooks, remember: strong basics are your launchpad. Get your fundamentals right, and the culinary world is yours to craft. Embrace wild and random ideas fearlessly. Take risks, go the extra mile, and experiment. Even if it turns out less than perfect, relish the lesson and move onward. Regrets nourish growth, guiding you toward your next flavorful endeavour

What challenges do you face as a chef, and how do you overcome them?

As a chef, a past accident left me with challenges in fine chopping due to stitches on my right hand. Balancing my roles as a homemaker and art gallery manager adds complexity. To tackle this, I've organized a schedule for shooting and posting on My Culinary Cottage. Efficient time management can solve many of life's problems.
