Hindi films which released at the theatres in the post-pandemic era ended up not having many takers. Dubbed fare from the south including KGF Chapter 2 and RRR ensured huge footfalls.

Apart from Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi, Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani and Tabu starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and The Kashmir Files, no other Hindi film has set the box office ringing. Here's a look at some of the reasons why the audience is rejecting Hindi films altogether:

Superstars don't ensure a hit

Hindi films have always relied on the stardom of male superstars to bring in the crowds. But this year, this idea has been rejected and how! Big budget films starring the biggest superstars in the industry have failed the litmus. They have crashed and burned at the ticket windows

Spend on a film and not on star's fee

The pay packets of stars in staggering today which leaves producers with very little to spend on the film. If an actors fee is 100 crore then breaking even at the ticket windows is a faraway thought. Making profits is almost next to impossible. Unless stars reconsider their fee, films with big budgets will not look like one since the money is not being spent on the film but is being pocketed by the stars.

Pap culture has dulled the aura of stars

Today thanks to social media, we all know when a star if flying off for a shoot or a holiday, We also know what they are eating for breakfast, lunch, dinner and when they are sweating it out in the gym. We are also privy to their pets, their bad hair days and the no makeup look. While all this makes for great content on social media, they don't come across as inaccessible and aspirational. While Bollywood content gets a thumbs up, their films not so much

Don't lose the ‘plot'

Big budgets, big stars and bigger promotional strategies doesn't ensure a hit. Content is the mainstay of every film. However, that seems to have taken a backseat in recent past. Writers should be given their due and fresh and new clutter breaking narratives will do the trick

Ageing stars don't appeal to the young' uns

The age of an average cinegoer is today hovers in the range of 15-30. For a TG that's young and vibrant, Hindi cinema's 50 plus superstars aren't going to grab eyeballs. They are mix of GenY and GenZ who want to see people their age on screen. Ageing stars fall short when it comes to relatability.

Fresh faces, the need of the hour

Talented actors and fresh faces are the need of the hour along with content which hits bull's eye. While Ratnaa Sinha is all set to launch three new faces with ‘Middle Class Love' including Prit Kamani, Kavya Thapar and Esha Singh, Zoya Akhtar is introducing a plethora of fresh faces with ‘The Archies' ,Hansal Mehta is also launching newcomers in his upcoming film Faraaz and there is ishq Vishk Rebound directed by Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari. The much needed winds of change might just be what the doctored ordered for an industry which finds itself in a state of flux
