With sixteen enthused members engrossed in discussion, the conference room at the Indian Merchants' Chambers, Churchgate was buzzing when What's On got there for a preview. Surbhi Tanna, President of the Ladies' Wing of the IMC and Parul Choksey, co-chairperson of the Exhibition Committee, filled us in on what to expect. "Seventy five per cent of the stalls have been assigned to women entrepreneurs who are new to their business," says Surbhi, explaining that they've been picked after a screening process in which, only 80 applicants from over 400, made the cut.
Charity First: Non-profit organisations such as The Cancer Patients' Aid Society, OM Creation Trust, Rajasthani Mahila Mandal, Karmyog, Isha Craft, Shraddha Charitable Trust and Ahilya Society will be showcasing torans, diyas, gift items among other eco-friendly products.
What's On Sale: With products ranging from clothes and jewellery to bags and home décor items, there's hardly a stall you wouldn't want to patronise.
Cash and Carry: We liked Laiala Motwane's range of Indian wear (Rs 3,000 onwards), Trupti Herman's embroidered gowns and tunics (Rs 1,800 onwards), Renuka Jiandani and Anu Kanjanai's home décor items, and Meghna K's tunics (Rs 2,500 onwards). Sarika Garg's jewellery is gorgeous but is priced Rs 95,000 and above.
Green's the colour of festivity: The exhibition committee has requested stall occupants to employ recyclable packaging. "Even our decorations are eco-friendly, this year," says Parul.
Actor and socialite Madhoo wears an outfit by Shalini Shahani, jewellery by Bhavna Hemchand. The bag is designed by her mother-in-law Kunti Shah for Kokommo
