American golfer Paige Spiranac, who is known to wear low-cut tops and skimpy shorts around golf greens, has lashed out at new LPGA Tour dress code that has banned "plunging necklines" and revealing clothes on the course.

According to the new rules, plunging necklines and only leggings are not allowed. The penalty for violating the dress code is USD $1,000, reported British tabloid Daily Star.

Spiranac, 24, reacted after major championship winner Lexi Thompson poked fun at the new rules by posting this picture (top right) on Instagram with the caption: "Got my new #LPGA dress code compliant outfit ready to go! #throwbackthursday #kidding #funny #joke."

Paige had a sharp reaction too. "I fear that these new rules are stifling the growth of the women's game. Take the vague banning of 'plunging necklines', what constitutes a plunging neckline? Most likely, this edict was put into place to eliminate the presence of cleavage. In that case, a curvier, fuller-figured woman would be chided and fined far more often than a woman with a smaller bust," she told told Fortune magazine. "In a world where women are continually sexualised, this rule is another reason for women to feel ashamed of their bodies," added Paige.
