Men Of The Moment: Bomb diffusers are in demand like never before

After sniffer dogs, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) in Gujarat may consider recruiting monkeys after a live bomb was found hanging from a tree in Surat yesterday.

The way the BDS in Surat went about diffusing the bombs yesterday, displays either their expertise or their total naivety. They were quite 'adept' at their job. No need to scan the bombs, just open it and cut the wires as simple as that.

The bomb planted on the tree, makes one smile in this time of tragedy. The functioning of the BDS defies logic. And the florescent wrapping inside the bomb just adds to it.

The loss of innocent lives in Ahmedabad's serial blasts has received little attention. A day after the blasts, as expected, politicians thronged to the blast sites and hogged the limelight. Each party blamed the other. Gujarat and Karnataka were being looked upon as BJP-ruled states.

Questions on the respective state government's intelligence were being raised. Like always, the Centre washed its hands off the issue, simply stating that they had forewarned the states about the threat.

The BJP then came up with a weird reason for the blasts. The Saffron party hinted at Centre's involvement in the serial blasts. According to their conspiracy theory,
the Centre orchestrated the blasts to "divert people's attention from the cash-for-vote scandal".

As far as Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is concerned, he failed to provide security to his people in 2002, and failed again in 2008. Clearly, as a chief minister, he has failed his state and its people.

However, there is no time to mull over such issues. Leaving everything behind, the country must move on.

This is a serious threat to the nation. Politicians in this country should stop taking advantage of the situation to push their agenda.

Unity is the need of the hour. And politicians and the public must counter terrorism in every possible way.
