Techie cheated of Rs 23 lakh
By: Imran Gowhar

Bangalore:

A managing director of a software company was cheated of Rs 23.3 lakh by two techies, who promised him an overseas project.

R Murali of Client-4 Software Tech Private Limited, in HBR Layout, was assured of a BPO project in Australia by his friend Srinivasan. He was then introduced to Ramesh Chandra, a techie who claimed  to have  contacts with various companies abroad, by Srinivasan.

He assured Murali of getting a BPO project in an Australian-based travel company and asked him to pay Rs 16 lakh as security deposit. Excited about the new project, Murali not only paid the amount but also spent lakhs for the office interiors and recruited around 100 employees.

More money

Ramesh Chandra later met Murali and asked him to pay Rs 7.3 lakh extra. "He called me up and asked me to pay Rs 3 lakh to his mother, Amrutha Valli and Rs 2 lakh to his elder brother Ravi Chander, which I promptly made," Murali told the police.

Murali realised that he was being cheated when he did not receive any communication from Suresh Chandra and Srinivasan. The duo started avoiding Murali's calls and later changed their mobile numbers too. Suspecting their behaviour, Murali tried to contact the Australian company, but to his surprise, the company did not exist at all. He even found that the agreement was fake.

Baffled Murali rushed to Rajajinagar police station. But the police refused to take his complaint. Murali later approached the city court which directed the Rajajinagar police to investigate and take appropriate action.

Blackmailing

A typist at Jayanagar Sub Registrar Office has lodged a complaint with the Kamakshipalya police against a cab driver for allegedly blackmailing her by threatening to circulate her nude photos if she failed to pay the amount he demanded.

"Rajesh, the cab driver,   used to call me frequently and blackmail me and demand money. He even  started misbehaving and I threatened to complain to the police," the complainant said.

"Enraged by this, Rajesh told me that he had my nude pictures and threatened to paste the photos in and around the city if I failed to pay the amount he demanded," she added. The police are looking out for Rajesh who is now absconding.
