`Ban fundamental outfits'

By: Firos

Bangalore:

Bangalore Archbishop Dr Bernard Moras has asked the state government to ban fundamentalist organisations like Bajrang Dal for attacking churches and prayer halls in Karnataka.

Claiming that he was the first person to condemn the forcible conversions the Archbishop alleged that some outfits were depicting Christians as perpetrators of religious intolerance.

He took exception to the statement by home minister Acharya that the attack on Church in Mariyannapalya was due to differences between the two groups in the area.

"He is trying to twist the facts. The home minister should clarify iti," he said in a press meet in Mangalore.

"The fundamentalist Hindutva activists were attacking the churches and were trying to trample on the secular fabric of the country and destroy peace and harmony," he said, demanding detailed probe by a retired judge or a high court sitting judge into the attacks against the prayer halls and churches.

"Even in the US Hindu Matadhipathis are campaigning for Hindu religion and many Christians have embraced Hinduism. So it is not bad," he said.
