Delhi: The national Capital will soon have one more water treatment plant to meet the increasing water demand in the city particularly of posh South Delhi area.
The 20-MGD project worth Rs 107 crore was approved in a board meeting of the Delhi Jal Board presided over by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
After the meeting, Dikshit said a 20-MGD plant would become operational at Okhla in South Delhi within 21 months after award of work for which source of water would be raw water saved on completion of Munak Canal.
The project includes construction of a raw water pumping station at Wazirabad and other ancillary works. At present there are eight treatment plants in the capital.
Dikshit added that the Board has also sanctioned laying of Bela Road 6.3-km trunk sewer line by micro-tunnelling.
The Board has also extended scheme of payment of water bills through 92 post offices for the convenience of consumers.
