By: MiD DAY Correspondent

Delhi: Retired super cop Kiran Bedi, after the success of her cyber policing through her website www.saferindia.com, has now launched Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand hub of the site in Noida sectors 63 and 10.

The extended versions of site will look into the crime in the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand region.
The Uttar Pradesh operations would be headed by former Noida cop K K Gautam, who found the body of Hemraj in the controversial Arushi-Hemraj murder case.

Hit among netizens

Since the launch of the website more than 43 lakh people have visited it from across the world. Moreover, the website has received more than 5,050 complaints within six months of its launch.

Inaugurating the Uttar Pradesh division Kiran Bedi said, "I am satisfied with the initial response to the website.

We had received more than 5,050 complaints since the launch of the website out which we have received maximum complaints from Delhi which comprises 29 per cent followed by Uttar Pradesh.

Around 82.35 per cent of complaints from Delhi were successfully registered by the police after they  were forwarded to the officers concerned. We also managed to register 48 per cent complaints from Punjab and 83 per cent from Uttar Pradesh."

Bedi explained that after doing a survey of complaints it was found that maximum complaints were of domestic violence, including 23 per cent of dowry harassment, followed by property dispute, car and mobile theft.

Bedi, who is India's first woman IPS officer,  said, "The police do not register cases to keep their crime statistics down but by not registering cases against criminals they in a way promote crime.

People are not concerned about the statistics they want crimeless society. Even Delhi police PRO claims that the crime is going down but people want results on the ground not data."

Bridging the divide

Explaining the function of the organisation Bedi said, "We are not an alternative police but we are the bridge between the police and complainant. After getting the complaint we forward it to the higher officer and the complainant gets an electronic acknowledgement.

Apart from helping the complaint in getting registered we also give free of cost legal advice and family counselling. We have got more than 1,200 volunteers to help the complainant with over 7,200 total registered users."
