The nomination done by the President came late Saturday evening. Ruling party is authorised to pick and choose candidates from various fields.
Sambhaji Raje, who belongs to a royal family of descendents of Chhatrapati Shivaji, has been leading an agitation for demanding a quota for the Marathas.
With a considerable clout, the royal is expected to add to the BJP's strength in southern Maharashtra, where NCP and Congress have been dominant.
Sambhaji Raje will get a seat that Pranav Pandya, Head of Gayatri Parivar, had declined to accept last month.
