Rego B, Bappi Lahiri’s 12-year-old grandson, has made his singing debut with ‘Bachcha Party,’ the video of which he features in. Rego B and composer Shameer Tandon speak to mid-day.com about how the track came to life.

How did this collaboration happen?
Shameer: We had set out to make a children's album. Today, there is no music section with lyrics that are appropriate for children. We auditioned 50 odd children and came across this child Rego B and finalised him. I later realised he is Bappi Da’s grandson. His talent has spoken very well. It’s a party song with rap but no foul language. ‘Bachcha Party’ will resonate with children. The track panned out in less than 4 months.  Saregama conceived the project and we developed song and produced the music video. There are a plethora of singles coming up.

How has Bappi Da influenced your music?
Rego B: Grandpa is my idol, I learnt music from him. I’m honoured to have him as my grandfather and express gratitude to come from a musical family. At the age of two, I started singing shlokas. When I was five years old, I learnt western classical music. I’m currently learning from Rock School, London, my mom Reema Lahiri and Shameer sir. I make it a point to rehearse every day.

What kind of music do you listen to?
Rego B: I’m a huge of western classical music and pop. I also listen to hip-hop and rappers. I love Michael Jackson and Ed Sheeran and listen to all their songs. I’m also inspired by Broadway.

What’s next?
Shameer: We are releasing another song in December that we are looking forward to.
