AR Rahman did not render a single line at the concert held to promote his upcoming film

It was touted to be AR Rahman’s live performance in Mumbai after two and a half years. The Oscar winner, who has composed the music of the upcoming film, Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, was slated to perform at its music launch on Thursday night. He had earlier performed live in the city before the release of his 2011 film, Rockstar.

However, at this function that was held at a Juhu hotel, Rahman did not sing even one line. He instead played the piano and introduced the various singers who belted out their numbers from the film.
The track, Khalifa, which Rahman has crooned, had newcomers Armaan Jain and Deeksha Seth dance to the recorded track.

It may be pointed out here that the composer had specially flown down to Mumbai from New York — where he is busy with his Hollywood commitments — for the event. He had even stated on social media that he was excited to perform live.

About his non-performance at the event Rahman says, “I always like to rehearse well for my shows. As I had just flown in from the US there was no time for any rehearsals, this is the reason I did not sing at the show.”

The event was initially going to be held at a cafe in Lower Parel where live performances are held. But days before the event, it was shifted to a Juhu five-star.

Lekar Hum Deewana Dil has Saif Ali Khan as producer and is directed by debutant Arif Ali (brother of filmmaker Imtiaz Ali).
